I was actually supposed to be going on a Tehran turnaround flight, but I was changed to airport standby. On my way to Headquarters, I checked my roster and saw Kuala Lumpur pop up! I wasn’t expecting it at all as I thought I would just be rostered another turnaround and before I knew it, I was on the aircraft about to take off. I didn’t even have any time to check the weather or flight times of Kuala Lumper as everything happened so quick!
Being on standby is such a weird feeling. You could literally end up anywhere so you have to pack for all seasons and countries. I love the excitement of it!
I was originally rostered a Kuala Lumpur flight right after this, so I will be flying to Kuala Lumpur back to back twice.
The flight went smoothly and the crew were all so friendly and helpful. We landed into Kuala Lumpur at around 8am and made our way to the hotel which was about an hour away from the airport.
I was craving some instant cup noodles so I went next door to the shopping mall which was connected to the hotel to buy some for breakfast! I ate them so fast and then came back to my room and slept for a few hours.
I woke up around 11am and decided to get a taxi into the city. I wanted to visit the Petronas Towers so made my way to the KLCC park. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t on my side and it started pouring with rain (it is monsoon season here in Malaysia). Instead, I had a walk around Suria KLCC shopping mall to pass the time whilst it was raining.
I then went outside to the park and had a walk around the fountains. The Petronas Towers are such an impressive landmark and tower over the city. I can’t help but always think of the Entrapment movie when I see them!
By this time, it was approaching the evening, and I wanted to get back to the hotel and have dinner and a massage, so I left the city and took a taxi back. I had dinner in the mall next door, and then decided to treat myself to an hour and a half full body oil massage. Massages in Asia are so cheap compared to other parts of the world, so I couldn’t resist.
It was actually one of the best massages I’ve had – and I’ve had a lot when I was living in Thailand! I felt so relaxed so came straight back to the hotel and slept. I couldn’t get over the size of the bed so had to take a picture of me in it!!!
I had a lovely time in Kuala Lumpur and I am looking forward to coming back again in two days time. Hopefully the weather will be a bit better so I can get out and do more things. Next time, I hope to see the Batu Caves!
