Dublin, Ireland

We departed Dubai early afternoon and reached Dublin International Airport 7 hours later around 8pm. The flight was lovely and I was excited to be in a new city! I have been to Ireland when I was really young so it felt like a brand new destination for me. We arrived at the hotel and I decided to stay in and have some food in the room.

Dinner!

The next morning, I slept in until 9am and then slowly got ready for the day. I wanted to do the Guinness factory tour so I booked my ticket online (as it is much cheaper online) and then made my way into the city by tram, or as they call it the “Luas”.

I got off the tram at Dawson and spotted Butler’s Chocolate Cafe so I thought that would be the perfect place to have some breakfast – a very chocolatey breakfast!

Hot chocolate, chocolate croissant and chocolate truffles – yum!

I then got the number 40 bus to the Guinness Storehouse and arrived just in time for my 11am slot.

I didn’t bother buying the audio guide as everything was written on the walls so I read that instead. It was so interesting learning how Guinness is made as well all about the Guinness family and how it was created.

I then went to get my very own pint of Guinness…with my face printed on it! One of the Irish crew members was telling me about this so when I booked my ticket, I paid the 6 euros extra for the “Stoutie”. They take your picture, pull the pint and then at the end, your picture is printed on top of the Guinness head – amazing!

Next, I went up to the top floor to see the views across Dublin from the Gravity Bar. I sipped on my Guinness, but couldn’t drink the whole lot of it as I hated the taste! It was the first time I’ve tried Guinness and I definitely think it will be the last!

I then walked into the city centre in search for the famous Temple Bar Pub! I stopped for some pictures and then had a very typical Irish stew for lunch nearby – delicious!

I carried on walking around the city, towards the Spire of Dublin, and then stopped off in Penneys (Primark) for a few bits. It was getting quite late in the day at this time so I started to make my way back to the hotel on the tram.

I had a fabulous layover in Dublin and I’m so glad I got to see a lot of the city. I really enjoyed the Guinness tour and just walking around the Irish streets! It was definitely a memorable layover.

Thanks for reading.

I really think you should go into a bit more of what life is like on the flights … what experiences you have at each of the airports AND where you get your favorite meals!! Also, how do you handle the costs of eating on the go ALL of the time (does the airline provide a stipend for your meals when you have a layover or is that on you too??). I know personally I travel a couple of times a month and I always LOVE getting home because I prefer to make my own meals and grocery shop for my favorite fruits and veggies! 🙂

Hi Lindsay, thanks for your comment! I am in Greece at the moment, and I think this has been my favourite place so far for the food! I can’t get enough of it. When we arrive on our layover and check into our hotel, we are given an allowance which normally covers our meals for the entire layover. Maybe I will do a ‘Day in the life’ post to give more of an insight about what happens on the flights/airports/layovers! 🙂

That would be so incredible, Kerry! I am so jealous of your life on the “road” … I think it would be a dream to fly on that airline as well! You travel to such exotic places!
