We departed Dubai early afternoon and reached Dublin International Airport 7 hours later around 8pm. The flight was lovely and I was excited to be in a new city! I have been to Ireland when I was really young so it felt like a brand new destination for me. We arrived at the hotel and I decided to stay in and have some food in the room.
The next morning, I slept in until 9am and then slowly got ready for the day. I wanted to do the Guinness factory tour so I booked my ticket online (as it is much cheaper online) and then made my way into the city by tram, or as they call it the “Luas”.
I got off the tram at Dawson and spotted Butler’s Chocolate Cafe so I thought that would be the perfect place to have some breakfast – a very chocolatey breakfast!
I then got the number 40 bus to the Guinness Storehouse and arrived just in time for my 11am slot.
I didn’t bother buying the audio guide as everything was written on the walls so I read that instead. It was so interesting learning how Guinness is made as well all about the Guinness family and how it was created.
I then went to get my very own pint of Guinness…with my face printed on it! One of the Irish crew members was telling me about this so when I booked my ticket, I paid the 6 euros extra for the “Stoutie”. They take your picture, pull the pint and then at the end, your picture is printed on top of the Guinness head – amazing!
Next, I went up to the top floor to see the views across Dublin from the Gravity Bar. I sipped on my Guinness, but couldn’t drink the whole lot of it as I hated the taste! It was the first time I’ve tried Guinness and I definitely think it will be the last!
I then walked into the city centre in search for the famous Temple Bar Pub! I stopped for some pictures and then had a very typical Irish stew for lunch nearby – delicious!
I carried on walking around the city, towards the Spire of Dublin, and then stopped off in Penneys (Primark) for a few bits. It was getting quite late in the day at this time so I started to make my way back to the hotel on the tram.
I had a fabulous layover in Dublin and I’m so glad I got to see a lot of the city. I really enjoyed the Guinness tour and just walking around the Irish streets! It was definitely a memorable layover.
Thanks for reading.
