I was supposed to be flying to Johannesburg but I managed to swap my flight for Colombo, Sri Lanka! I have recently been to Johannesburg so I didn’t fancy returning so soon. Also, the flight to Sri Lanka is half the time so that was a bonus! We departed Dubai at 10am and then just a short 4 hours later, we arrived in Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo. We arrived at our hotel which was beautiful and right on the beach.

One of the crew recommended a massage place outside of the hotel so we all got changed quickly and then met in the lobby as we had a driver come and pick us up. We arrived at the massage centre and all four of us opted for a 75 minute full body massage. It was beautiful and the best thing after a flight.

And relax!
After what was an amazing massage, we was then feeling hungry so we asked the driver if he could take us to a good seafood restaurant. He took us to a lovely beach front restaurant called King Coconut where I ordered lobster and rice – my favourite!

Dinner

The dinner was very nice and looking out onto the beach and hearing the sea was bliss! It definitely felt like we was on holiday and not on a work layover! Afterwards, we walked along the street which had lots of touristy shops and more bars and restaurants. I bought a few snacks from a local supermarket and then we made our way back to the hotel. At this point, it was about 10pm so I went back to my room and Facetimed my sister Cara as it was her birthday!
The next morning, I woke up about 9am to gorgeous sun and blue skies. I changed and then went downstairs for the buffet breakfast.

Ready for breakfast
The breakfast was delicious, I had freshly made pancakes and fruit. I met one of the girls down there and then we walked down to the beach and found a good spot between the pool and the beach to lay down.

Sun, sea and sand!
We spent pretty much the whole day between the beach and the pool, sleeping and eating! It was such a relaxing day of doing nothing! I never really had any expectations of Sri Lanka before but I would definitely think about coming here on days off as it’s so close to Dubai and would be a perfect holiday destination.

Cooling off!
Later on, about 5pm, I booked myself in for another massage! Totally unnecessary as I had one the night before but I couldn’t help being persuaded by the hotel staff! I do love a massage! I went up to the Sky Spa and had an hour full body oil massage. Again, it was absolutely beautiful and it left me feeling even more relaxed, right before the flight back to Dubai.

Sadly, it was then time to get ready for the flight back to Dubai. As always, I was excited to get back to Dubai but I was also sad to be leaving Sri Lanka. I had the most relaxing layover ever and I am so glad I got to visit the beautiful Colombo – hopefully next time I will see more of Sri Lanka!
Thanks for reading.
