Cape Town, South Africa

I was supposed to be flying to Venice, but the night before the flight, I checked my phone and received a roster change to Cape Town. I was a little bit disappointed as I was looking forward to visiting Venice for the first time, however, I couldn’t contain my excitement for Cape Town as it is always somewhere I have wanted to visit. Turns out this was the best layover yet!

We departed Dubai at 9am and with only 1 hour of sleep the night before, I was feeling a bit tired so the CRC break (Crew Rest Compartment) was very much appreciated. We landed into Cape Town at 4pm and I overheard the Captain and two Business class girls making plans to go to Table Mountain at sunset. I jumped at the opportunity and met them downstairs in 30 minutes.

We ordered an Uber and then drove to the Table Mountain Cable Car. We was a bit worried when we got there as the queue was really long, and by this time, it was already 6.30pm and the sun would be setting in an hour. Luckily, we bought our tickets online in the queue and it went really quickly so we was up there by 7pm.

The cable car only takes 5 minutes to get to the top and the floor rotates 360 degrees so everyone can get a chance to see the beautiful views. It was such an incredible experience and the views really are breathtaking. There is no way I could have hiked up the mountain so this was definitely the best way up.

We arrived at the top and it was a ‘wow’ moment! We walked around to see all of the different views and angles and it was just stunning. We got ourselves a drink and found a spot where we watched the sunset.

It is the middle of summer in Cape Town, so boiling hot, however, at the top it’s very chilly, especially as the sun was going down. It was by far, the best sunset I’ve ever seen though and it was definitely one of them moments I will never forget.

We then went back down on the cable car and got a lovely view of Cape Town by night. We were all exhausted at this point, so we decided to come back to the hotel and get dinner there. I had steak for dinner which was beautiful. I couldn’t believe how cheap it was too, it worked out to be £5 with our discount – bargain!

The next morning, I woke up around 9am and wanted to visit the Waterfront. We took the shuttle bus and got some breakfast at a place called Tashas.

We had a little walk around the shopping mall and then went outside to the harbour and big wheel. The weather was amazing again, and there was a really nice atmousphere here. It was filled with families and tourists.

We then did some food shopping in Pick n Pay supermarket and I stocked up on some meat as it is so cheap here and the quality is so good.

So that was everything I got up to in Cape Town. I truly had the most amazing time and loved every second of our 24 hours here. This was definitely my favourite layover so far, and I am now so grateful for that roster change – everything happens for a reason! I would love to come back here again one day as there is still so much to see and do here.

Thanks for reading.
