Vienna, Austria

I was very excited to be flying to a brand new city in Europe that has always appealed to me – Vienna, Austria! The flight from Dubai was super busy so when we arrived at the hotel around 9pm, I ordered some room service and went straight to bed so that I could wake up early the next morning for a day of sightseeing.

The next morning, I met a group of girls downstairs for breakfast and then we walked into the city. It was absolutely freezing – 2 degrees! Our hotel was right by Belvedere Palace which was really convenient so we went there first and walked around the gardens. There were so many beautiful water fountains around the palace but none of them were working – probably because it was too cold!

We were all feeling a bit cold at this point, and didn’t really know where to go to next, so we ended up buying tickets for the hop on hop off bus tour of Vienna. It was a much warmer and quicker way of seeing the city.

We got to see the Danube River (Europes second longest river), Prater (famous amusement park) the Danube Tower and many more historical sites. I really wanted to try the Sacher cake from the very own Sacher hotel, but unfortunately the queue was so long and we didn’t have much time – definitely next time!

We stopped off at the Vienna State Opera House which was beautiful and we found a great spot for taking pictures. Of course we had a little photoshoot! We then stopped off at a supermarket near the hotel where I bought a slice of Sacher cake and some other bits.

We then came back to the hotel and rested for a few hours before the night flight back to Dubai. I had a lovely time in Vienna exploring the city and learning all about the history on the bus tour. The company was great too and I actually enjoyed the cold weather – it was a nice change from Dubai.

Thanks for reading.

    1. Hi Lindsay! I had never heard of a Sacher cake either before going to Vienna. It is a chocolate cake topped with apricot jam and dark chocolate icing. After doing some research I found out that it is actually National Sachertorte Day in the United States on December 5!!
